O'Neill Collegiate and Vocational Institute (O'Neill C.V.I.) in Oshawa is a school for grades 9-12. Since 1910, our mission has been to provide high school students from Oshawa with diverse socioeconomic backgrounds with the assistance they need to meet or exceed Ministry of Ontario education requirements. This mission is achieved with the help of students, teachers, parents, and Oshawa school community members who collaborate with the School Community Council. By offering a broad variety of curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities, we emphasize academic success, responsibility, and respect for others, their property, and ideas, as well as communication skills, problem-solving, and teamwork. Our goal is to offer equal opportunities to all students, regardless of their background or ability level. Our programs assist students in developing abilities and attitudes necessary for continuous learning and development and building responsible citizens with our gifted/enriched program. Academic/Applied (or 'essential'), Locally-Developed, and Essential courses are available to students. Additional enrichment and support are provided by O'Neill C.V.I. through student leadership programs, such as Leadership Class (Grade 12), Physical Health Education (Grade 12), Peer Tutoring, and O'Neill Athletic Council. Students can also join Visual Arts Council, Performing Arts Councils, and Students' Councils to enrich their lives and express themselves. Additionally, students can participate in the following activities: Performing Arts Program, Visual Arts Program, Vocal, Instrumental, and Jazz Ensembles, O'Neill Art Exhibition, Theatre performances, Specialist High Skills Major, Students Together Against Racism, sports teams, clubs, and math competitions at a provincial or national level.

Most students reflect positively on their time at O'Neill High School, rating it above other local schools. Teachers like Mr. Leich played a role in the students' lives for years. They appreciate that the school treats all like LGBTQ friends, and the academic environment is supportive. Many personalized options help students feel more comfortable. Many students recommend the school as a great music program and a supportive community. But, one student described an incident where they fell on the stairs. The school has helped many to develop and feel welcome.
