We had a flood in our newly renovated Toronto basement. Our contractor recommended WM Groves from Hamilton who arrived around 7pm, and at overtime hours, it cost us $1400. To make a very long story short, there were 3 areas of water damage: 2 were from the water backing up through the in floor drains, and the third was from where the WM Groves tech had run the snake through the clean out on the wall, but failed to tighten the cap once done. We were worried about the smell and mold, so we took the vinyl floor up 10 days later, and there were 3 separate areas where the cement floor was dark, clearly showing where water had come from which drain, and which had come from the leak in the untightened clean out cap. Upon contacting WM Groves, I was told the tech said the entire basement was flooded, not just parts, which if it were true, the photos would show the entire cement floor as dark from water stains. That was not the case, and was corroborated by our contractor and two flooring people. It was very likely the tech had worked a full day and then had to drive to Toronto to service our home, so when you are tired, you can make mistakes. The problem however, is flat out lying that the entire basement was flooded, and then to make matters worse, his supervisor made every excuse in the book and would not take responsibility for the error. Will the city of Toronto pay for their part of the damage? Who knows? But I do know WM Groves will not pay for their part.
