To create a will, you will need to make two appointments. The first appointment is on average one hour long. The lawyer will explain the details and go through every step. The second appointment is to sign it if you are comfortable with the drafts. This is a very personal and important decision, and signing will be done at your pace. All of the information provided will be kept confidential. You will only need to visit the lawyer again to provide information regarding who you would like to be executor/executrix and alternate beneficiaries. If you have dependents, you will need to tell the lawyer who your guardian(s) is.
Following the first appointment, the process for drafting the will starts. The lawyer will send drafts of the will (a mockup/first version) to you for your approval. If the draft meets your expectations, a second appointment will be set to sign it. A will is not legally binding unless it has been properly signed and witnessed. Tarnowecky Law usually prepares three documents. These documents include, but are not limited to: a last will and testament, a living estate, and a power of attorney. The meeting will begin with a review and discussion of all documents. You choose which documents are included. Each person's will varies depending on what they want to include in it.
It doesn't matter if it is too early or late to start planning your financial future. Planning your will properly will give you peace of mind during difficult times when unexpected things happen.
