Established in 1942, McIntosh Gallery is a university-based public art gallery that works with academics, artists, and curators to develop inventive tactics for interpreting and disseminating visual culture. Its exhibitions, education programs, and special events are all opportunities to engage with artists and visual art. McIntosh Gallery acknowledges the support it receives from the Government of Canada through the Museums Assistance Program. The Canada Council for the Arts through the Engage and Sustain Program. The gallery also serves as an instructional and research resource for the students, faculty, and staff of Western University and the City of London’s larger community. By relating to a range of art, education, and research projects, the programs and services offered promote innovation in the production, presentation, interpretation, and collection of visual cultures. The key goal of McIntosh Gallery is to be nationally recognized as a leader in university public art galleries, known, and respected for the inventive interpretations and research that it conducts into art and culture.

The visitors greatly enjoy the McIntosh Gallery, finding it an engaging space with a fantastic selection of exhibitions on Western's campus. Some find its size deceiving as it is compact yet beautiful but accessible and recommend heading straight there from time to time. Patrons enjoyed the free entry and gazing at the artwork and wrote that they usually viewed students' work. One guest characterized the gallery as full of worthwhile wonders. Those intrigued to peek at great art at an on-campus gem should not hesitate.
