Market maturity and preference, as well as brand, are important factors in deciding whether we manage or franchise hotels for third-party owners. In Europe, the Americas, and mature markets, franchised hotel models are more common, whereas managed hotels are adopted for growth markets such as Greater China. Through an asset-light strategy, we have significantly reduced the number of owned, leased, and managed leased hotels from more than 180 hotels two decades ago to a few today.
