ABOUT   Services Excellence Summary

When Harold Boake, a 30-year veteran of livestock and crop farming, discovered the agricultural industry was changing more than he wanted, he realized it was time for a shift. “Things were different when my father started the family farm. You could make good money without caring about market changes,” Harold recalls. “And then the sixties and seventies came.” Harold became interested in cars during his downtime and decided to retire in 1988. Harold had met Jim Bridgeman, a fellow client of their shared supplier, a few years earlier. Jim and Jim (as they thought it was hilarious to name a company) had some tire knowledge from our careers. “I worked in sales and service. It seemed logical to me that I should move in this direction,” Bridgeman said. The partners rented a 1,800-square-foot unit in Markham's industrial park in 1987. Steelcase Road was named after the largest office furniture manufacturer on the street. Steelcase Tires was the natural choice. Harold recalls, “We had one bay and sold one type of tire.” “I can't think of how many wheels and tires Jim changed in the first year. It wasn't easy. Like Harold's farm, Steelcase Tires quickly became a neighborhood favorite for tires thanks to our friendly sidewalk style and honest advice. So...we incorporated it.” Two years later, Steelcase Tires was a three-bay company with seasonal workers. Dave Holmeshaw, a young landscaper, was one of our employees. “Dave worked at a landscaping company owned by a close friend,” Jim says of his first employee. “They were struggling with money, so I took him for a few months to help the boy out. We refused to let him leave because he was so loved by his customers.” Dave became a co-owner in 2005. Steelcase Tires now uses over 12,000 square feet. We still have the same address in the same industrial park. Steelcase Tires stocks over 25 types of tires and wheels. There is no need to worry. Steelcase Tires has the right tires for you. Steelcase has a wholesale trade that sells new cars to dealerships, service centers, taxi companies, and other retailers in addition to its retail business. Steelcase now has 9 employees and up to 15 seasonal workers. With Richard, Harold's son behind the counter, there is a new generation in tire specialists. Though you may not know much about tires, you can always find us. The end.
