Murphy Woodwinds Brian Murphy is a saxophonist based in Toronto. He has played in the jazz ensembles of renowned Canadian saxophonists Pat LaBarbera, Alex Dean, Mark Promane, and Brian Lillos. He was a student at Humber College in the Bachelor of Music Program and enjoyed performing shows with such artists as Denny Christianson, Kevin Turcotte, among others. In his last year, Brian Murphy received the GWN Jazz Award. He started his studies to earn his master’s degree in Jazz Performance at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) in 2009. In his time in Las Vegas, he had many great opportunities to perform and study with great jazz musicians. Brian worked with Nathan Tanouye and Phil Wigfall, who have played with Celine Dion among others. George Garzone also performed with Brian while he was a student. Marlena Shave, Joe LaBarbera and Bob Sheppard are other great musicians that Brian played with during this time. Brian graduated from the University of Nevada Las Vegas in the spring of 2010 and was a part-time Adjunct professor of Jazz Woodwinds in UNLV College of Fine Arts in September 2010. Brian also performed shows with The Four Tops and The Temptations on the Las Vegas Strip in September 2010. Brian also has played with Bobby Rydell, The Righteous Brothers and Matt Goss. Brian was the first substitute Reeds 1 and 2 in Vegas. This is no easy task. Brian also had a doubling job on clarinet, saxophone, and flute in the Show at the Planet Hollywood Miracle Mile Shops. This is no easy task, either. Brian's musical theatre background also includes Forbidden Bdoswad, Smokey Joes Cafe, A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum and Disney's Beauty and the Beast in Las Vegas. Brian and his family have happily returned to Canada this summer 2017.He started teaching in Southern Ontario again.
