I am writing this review as an opposing, self-represented party in a family court case where this firm acted for the applicant. The first court appearance - counsel of record Afras Khattak did not attend and sent Ms. Anitra Nickel to appear for him. It was necessary for me to verify with Law Society of Ontario whether Ms. Anitra Nickel was a licensed lawyer. The Law Society of Ontario advised me that she was not a lawyer at the time and date of court appearance. This is not disclosed. Also, no clear disclosure was made in court of the representative and her licensing status, no confirmation on the record of who her supervising lawyer was, and no supervising lawyer present during the court appearance. I have not received a clear confirmation from Counsel of Record identifying himself as the supervising lawyer, and how supervision requirements were satisfied. As a self-represented parent who was active in court that day, I find it deeply concerning that a representative was present without apparent licensing who was not allowed to speak on clear facts that were important. 16.
