Oshawa House Cafe, initially opened as a popular food business by several names throughout the years, began operating again by its current name in 2019. Ravi Khanna and Bill Khanna, the property owners, took it back and reopened it after a short renovation. They have been pillars of the community since they started the company in 2004, and their efforts have breathed new life and community spirit into the cafe. Today, Oshawa House Cafe has a wide range of menu options, including coffee and snacks for the whole family. Construction and History of the House (1838) In or around 1838, someone built the Oshawa house in an Italianate style. In 1844, the inn was considered to be one of the finest taverns between Toronto and Kingston. At first, it seemed to be a simple house, but it was later discovered that it served several purposes. On the second story of the section with two stories adjacent to Centre Street, there was a large meeting room. The room served as a meeting space for many local groups and also as a venue for public speeches. Another notable mention is the history of the Manchester of Canada, published in 1898. The report indicated that the Oshawa house hotel had around 40 rooms that had been well furnished and lit with electricity. During this time, one would rent a room for one dollar, but special rates could be obtained when renting for a week. Due to the increase in the number of guests visiting the place, the owner decided to rent out the rooms at a fair price to avoid any complains (Oshawa House Cafe, 2020).
