Once known as the "Ottawa YM-YWCA Trampoline Club," the Ottawa Gymnastics Centre dates back to 1960. This makes it the oldest non-profit gymnastics facility in Canada. For various decades, the club operated out of high schools where equipment was set up and dismantled daily. It was a situation that meant boys and girls were trained at different locations. 175 Richmond Road received the club in 1980. The City Centre on Scott Street later became the club's new home in 1988. Nonetheless, the Scott Street building became too small to accommodate the club's expanding membership. In 1992, with 294 Elmgrove Avenue being the Club's current home, the OGC relocated into the old Lyons hockey arena. The club aggressively increased its programs. By that year, the membership exceeded 3000. The club was then serving infants to seniors. The Toddler Rec class is for children who are either new to gymnastics or are graduating from Kindergym classes. The lessons will include games and safety as well as rolling, balance, coordination, and body shape. The gymnasts will also get to learn new terms and discuss their bodies and their journey during the classes. This class is future-focused and prepares gymnasts for the Junior Rec program. It also serves as an introduction to other sports your child may be involved in. At this level, gymnasts can earn their Purple & Turquoise Ribbons.

The Ottawa Gymnastics Centre has received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback but frequent issues with parking and infrastructure. Most reviewers admire the dedicated and helpful staff and mention the many programs for youngsters and adults. Parents are encouraged by their children's newfound love for the sport, while adults find whole body fitness and recreation opportunities there. Noteworthy, night reviews reliably mention strong emotions connected with getting some fun, exercise and new experiences every week. Several patrons also mention that their children have been able to join their main and full gymnasts from very young age till recreational and competitive levels. On a brighter note, from the gym's size it is clear that space is no problem - even with the Covid- 19 restrictions. But, there is a need for the management to look at the usability of the bathrooms, changing rooms and parking situation. Nevertheless, Ottawa Gymnastics Centre emerges as a popular community and caregiver destination.
