Metal braces are stainless steel braces that were the only type of braces available for decades. Today, orthodontists have several different varieties to choose from. Braces are more visible on teeth because they are made of stainless steel. Ceramic braces use clear braces that are less visible and more see-through. They are used by teenagers and adults who have cosmetic concerns. Ceramic braces are much less noticeable than metal braces but are clear. Ceramic braces require more oral hygiene because they are larger and more fragile. The upper teeth are more likely to need ceramic braces.
