Sona Vartanian is regarded as Canada’s top Vaganova ballet technique expert. She finished her studies at the National Academy of Ballet in Yerevan, where she learned Vaganova technique and training standards. After finishing her studies, she worked as an art teacher and quickly became one of the most well-known dancers of her generation. She began her artistic career as a prima ballerina at the National Opera and Ballet Theater of Armenia in the USSR. She moved to Canada and joined Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, where she danced as the prima ballerina for seven seasons. While at Les Grands Ballets, she became a star of the company, bringing artistic renown to the organization and thrilling Canadian and international spectators with her performances. Ms. Vartanian is a former prima ballerina who has danced with the Cleveland Ballet and Les Ballets Classiques de Montreal. She was also cast in leading roles as a guest singer with the Alberta Ballet, Nevada Dance Theatre, and the National Ballet of Portugal, as well as the Georgian Ballet of Tbilisi, and the Ukrainian Ballet of Donetsk.
