About the Artist – École de Dessin et Peinture Mélissa Breault Melissa Breault, a devoted Canadian painter and artist, has an immense passion for learning and reviving traditional painting and drawing techniques. She has studied the techniques of the old masters. Her work specializes in portraiture, figurative art, and classical realism. She loves to paint landscapes, animals, and the natural world. Art was destined for me. It found me very young. I was one of the youngest art students in Montreal when I was only thirteen. My passion for drawing led me to the fine arts, where I learned the classic techniques of drawing and painting, painting in watercolour and soft pastels, charcoal and oil. Paradoxically, both are as important to me and one cannot exist without the help of the other. They are linked by the very fabric of the eleven letters of a word that is simple and meaningful. This bond is personal and essential for me. Inspirations are tricky to find. Ideas in black and white on the pages of a dictionary sound reasonable but hard to apply in real life. The temporary transparency of creative inspiration that fills our lungs is fated to end with a dying thought, the epiphanies of an exalted air, the embers of a gifted impulse. Pear is the fruit that enjoys a life of fragility as everything in this world. But she still has the one thing that keeps her standing, despite the fate of all earthly things. The growth potential of a pear lies in the warmth and water found in the environment. My environment is where I found my growth by drawing my inspirations. The art found me in myself. It feels difficult to know if my essence can discern where the edges of my skin stop and the space begins. I can't tell the difference between floating here, breathing, and drawing.
