About this business

The problem with scratching culture is the fact that it seems to be a pretty uninteresting topic to document, even if there was a museum that was willing to do so. It is essential to understand that scratching culture has led to a lot of advancements in the music industry within a time span of a few decades. It started in the 1970s and during this time, it was only practiced by underground DJs. Unfortunately, contemporary DJs do not know where scratching originated, a unique skill influencing Hip-Hop. The first time turntable scratching was documented was in 1981 (Chang et al., 2019). The emergence of scratching culture in the Hip-Hop music genre has led to its promotion as an art form and encouraged most people to learn the culture. More music genres are incorporating scratching as a music genre, such as techno music and house music, among others. The turntable scratching culture is most likely to fade away due to the constant advancement in music technology. However, it is essential for people to understand that scratching is a culture that has existed for a long time and has played an essential role in the music industry. Chang, J., Chen, C., Tsai, K. et al. (2019). The Impact of Social Media and Digital Technology on Contemporary DJ Culture. *Journal of the Society of Dance Film & Video, 31*(3), 224-239. Resource 2
