The Saskatchewan Association of Architects (SAA) is an independent, self-governing regulatory body created by The Architects Act 1996 in Saskatchewan to oversee the practice of architecture. The Act (legislation) and SAA Bylaws govern administrative and operational decisions and council actions. The Association may undertake things that further the Association’s interests and those of members. Still, such pursuits must not undermine the primary goal of protecting the public. The SAA advocates for good governance to carry out its public protection mandate. The Council consists of ten people: seven resident architects elected by the membership at the annual general meeting and two public appointees, one of whom is an architecture professor at a university. The Past President serves on Council. Many volunteers help the association, and three standing committees carry out the association’s work (Practice, Education, and Communications), and representatives to several professional associations.
