Founded in 1999 by Erik N. Hendon and James M. Huckestein, the Hendon & Huckestein Architects (h+ha) firm has grown to become one of the largest architecture firms in the United States. Combined, Erik and James have over 40 years of experience in the industry. h+ha’s success has been due to its emphasis on innovation and design excellence. They achieve this through a profound understanding of the client’s situation, budget, and requirements. The firm began in a two-room office at the Brown Marx Tower. The rapid growth of h+ha necessitated an immediate move to downtown Birmingham @ Twentieth and Second Avenue North in 2001. This strategic location provided convenient access to our rapidly expanding clientele. In order to provide greater focus and concentration on our increasing interior architecture and design company, hendon+huckestein architecture / Interior Architecture by hendon+huckestein was created in 2005. h+ha’s proficiency in interiors was growing, as seen in the renovation of Birmingham's historic Tutwiler Hotel or Icon Restaurant. This has allowed our clients to enjoy excellent design and service. Our commitment to urban revitalization is demonstrated by our current office, which was relocated to 2126 Morris Avenue in 2007. The historic building, which was previously a warehouse for grocers, showcases our firm's belief in architecture as a tool for creativity.
