Maus Contemporary, formerly known as beta pictoris gallery, is an art gallery and space for contemporary art that fosters creativity, experiments, and innovative and problem-driven work. They represent internationally recognized, emerging, and established artists, providing a global perspective on contemporary practices and issues in the Visual Arts. The gallery includes publications, exhibitions, and media outreach. It emphasizes cross-generational storytelling by placing contemporary artists into dialogue with historically relevant artists by showing together. The gallery recently received critical praise for its rigorous program of gallery exhibitions that last ten- to twelve weeks, which is a hallmark of curator excellence in the South. The gallery was honored with a prestigious award when Mark Flood: FACEBOOK FARM was awarded the AICA USA Award for Excellence in Art Criticism & Curatorial Achievement in the category of Best Show in a Commercial Space Nationally Outside of New York (Art Forum, Art in America). Through series, and five to six exhibitions per year, it will continue to provide a space for experimentation within a difficult cultural environment. Maus Contemporary has published 12 publications, including monographs on gallery artists Leslie Smith III and Irene Grau in Spain, Catherine Tafur from Peru, and Melissa Vandenberg, an American artist who works in a variety of media.
