ABOUT   Services Excellence Summary

Jessica Smith Bobadilla has always been interested in human rights. Her parents moved to Fresno, California, from Mexico, where her dad was born, and to Los Angeles from Istanbul, where her mom was born. Her parents are immigrants to the US and were raised in Fresno. Her parental grandfather, Manoog Bobadilla, was born in 1912 in Istanbul and forced to abandon his city in search of a safe haven due to the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1918. Nevart Avakian was an Armenian from the Ottoman Empire who sought refuge in Mexico due to the Armenian Genocide. Manoog and Nevart got married in 1947. Manoog was an architect before becoming a businessman. Their families lived in Central California. Jessica and her parents were treated poorly because they are Armenians and Catholics. Her parents moved to Los Angeles due to the area's racism. Jessica's second cousin, Daniel Chacon, lives near her. Her paternal family cut ties with their Armenian-Mexican and Armenian-American roots. Her family gained Mexican citizenship in the 1960s because of their last name. Her parents speak Spanish better than Armenian. Gibelee is Jessica's cousin, who lived in Mexico until she was eight years old and attended primary and secondary school in Tijuana. She is a talented cook and has been an assistant for the firm. Gibelee can be reached by contacting the firm. Gibelee and Jessica are studying Armenian with a teacher from Armenia. They celebrate their grandmothers, Kisag and Nevart who survived the Armenian Genocide. She has appeared before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals several times. Jessica has helped clients with meritorious claims that the Department of Justice initially denied, and she won attorney fees for them, including a few cases in the Ninth and Tenth Circuits. Her firm also offers Zealous and Caring advocacy for immigration lawsuits. Her clients were on the brink of deportation in all these cases because they had gotten poor or no legal support from an attorney.
