Bresee Foundation

Bresee Foundation was started in 1982 by community leaders to address structural disadvantages experienced by the local residents. In three decades and nine years since its establishment, Bresee has evolved from a local after-school program designed to prevent young people from loitering in the streets to a comprehensive Central Los Angeles community organization that uses a holistic approach to lift the local people from poverty to socio-economic balance and long-term prosperity. The united mission of the Bresee Foundation is to end poverty by encouraging young people and their families to sustain themselves through education, resources, and relationships in Los Angeles. The youth, whom the Bresee Foundation strives to help, comprise 65% of the population of Central Los Angeles (Bresee Foundation, n.d.). The foundation strives to achieve its goal by delivering a range of programs across three interrelated program divisions: Youth Services, Family Services, and Gang Prevention.
