Real Time and Space

Real Time and Space: Founded in March 2011 by Emma Spertus & Mark Taylor, RTS is a creative business concerned with nurturing artists. Emma and Mark signed a five-year lease for a 5,500 sq. ft. warehouse situated in Oakland’s Chinatown. Emma and Mark converted an existing print shop into a studio and woodshop, plus a communal area. Real Time and Space launched the residency program almost immediately by providing a studio to one resident at all times during the tenure recognition of the spaciousness and the cheap rent. RTS’s objective is to endorse established and emerging artists across disciplines. RTS’s members and guest artists from Real Time Residency, our residency program, speaker series, and performance programming have all contributed immensely to the Bay Area arts scene. Williams first joined RTS in 2008 when she started renting a studio in 2013. The studio became a permanent space when the friend graduated from grad school. Thus, the friend moved out and Rwanda started doing work at home, a RTS space for community and transition after grad school. Ceramics were initially looked at by Williams, and she is a profound painter. Bonanza, a collaborative work by Lindsay Tully and Conrad Guevara, is also part of Williams. Bonanza comprises multi-disciplinary artists working in fashion, film, painting, sculpture, and performance.
