ADVANCE REPROGRAPHICS, formerly known as ADvance Blueprint, was started in 1963 by Larry Kosta, his wife Deanna, and their daughter, Deanna. The reason for setting up this business was that Larry wanted to be his boss. After trying their luck in another company and taking what they learned, the couple decided to pursue blueprinting. Larry was familiar with this job. The former had been a San Diego Blueprint blueprint delivery man who had delivered them on his motorcycle. Advance Blueprint was established when he bought his own blueprint machine. This was a good time to start this business because the building industry was doing good business and there were few companies competing. They were profitable from the start and bought the land at the corner of Midway Drive & Kemper Street in 1972. This building served as the company's headquarters until 2003. It was probably the first drive-thru print shop in the country. We were also the first walk-in blue printer as we wanted to provide the best customer service in San Diego. We pride ourselves on our innovative ideas. We were able to provide a convenient way of dropping off print orders by driving in through a drive-thru. Advance Blueprint is a company that has been placing its customers at the forefront. Our innovative thinking has kept us in business for over 50 years (Kosta, 2022). We are still here, 50 years later. My parents died in the mid-1990s. They put their children, Janet Kosta and Larry Kosta Jr., in charge. The building was too small in 2001. The digital printing age was at its peak, and we needed a name that reflects our capabilities. We had to move, change our name and modernize all our production processes. Thus, Advance Blueprint became Advance Reprographics. Advance Reprographics continues to innovate to meet the evolving graphics requirements of the 21st Century as our grandparents did to start and grow their family business.
