My mother was a single woman and I was raised in third world countries. My father was unknown to me. My mother had multiple jobs, so she wasn't always there during my childhood. Every few years, I would move from one family member to the next. While some of my relatives were wealthy, others didn't have any indoor plumbing. As a child, I was subject to neglect and childhood poverty. There were also many traumatic events. I was nine years old when some tragic events led to me being pulled from school. People did not expect me to have role models or a clear direction for my life. In my early 20s, my family immigrated from Mexico to the United States. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a local college. While I was working in restaurants at night, I attended classes and took courses during the day. I began working part-time as a bank teller and continued to run the restaurant a few years later. Because I had two jobs, it was not long before I left college. After a number of promotions and a couple years, I was a wealth management banker holding a title as VP. Working at the best financial institution in the country, I had the opportunity to do so. To help high-net worth clients manage their wealth and increase efficiency, I worked with a group of financial professionals. I received numerous recognitions and was consistently a top performer. I earned six figures even though I didn't have a college education. But I felt a deep sense of loss, and a profound knowing that I could do more to help the world.
