UHSSE's School Counseling Program Philosophy UHSSE's school counseling program philosophy is to facilitate the academic, personal and social development of each student through individual and small group guidance programs provided by State Certified School Counselors. The Guidance Department's primary goal is to enable students to discover their post-secondary goals and dreams based on their potential and interests. This will require cooperation between home, school, and community efforts. UHSSE Visual Art Department Philosophy Our philosophy is to help students become artistically literate and to help them see the world. Our goal is to create visual encounters between students and the environment and to establish links between science and art. Art inspires us to be creative, allowing us to construct frameworks through which we can navigate our world. The curriculum emphasizes the artistic process, with the final product used as a vehicle to propel us. The challenges we create, examine, and express are intended to inspire abstract thinking, which results in process-based problem-solving. All students are encouraged to take advantage of this platform, and we cultivate an atmosphere that is both reflective and a community. Students are provided the opportunity to communicate their thoughts and ideas via the experiential learning approach. A student will be able to use the Critical Method to assess the quality of their work. Students will use the Elements of Art and Principles of Design to create their art. Students will know how to use each medium throughout their art career.
