Smarter Remodeling

What a shame! I would have given them 5 stars for overall experience. I am a veteran, former Marine, and retired Naval Officer. I take care of my elderly parents. I needed to build an addition for accommodations to a 2nd entrance to the hall bathroom for when I needed a wheelchair for my parents in the past to use the shower. Like with all additions, there will be hiccups, but they seem to handle them okay. My contract for my addition to the house included building an entrance wall to the new room with an arch. As well as to create the same arch over what used to be the exterior wall into the new addition. Once the room was finished those projects for wall and arches were left to finish. The framer said to me, " It looks like will be expensive to do that." I told the framer I paid for it and it's in the contract to be done. At this point, Bill, the project manager, tried to convince me not to build the entrance wall and arches. When I asked for a credit/refund for that part of the project, the project manager, started to sell me the idea of doing a nice frame on my former exterior wall for the same value. I had faux wainscoting in the formal living room to that new interior entryway, so I agreed. I sent the project manager a picture of the framing I wanted done. About a month later project manager told me could not find anyone to do the framing.... he mentioned China was part of the issue as many contractors used it for excuses. I can only assume he wanted to prefabricate sleeves to slide on the wall. I told him it could be built from scratch. Which is what I had done by someone else after they said they were done with the project. The project manager offered me what he said was at cost for him to build wall and arches at $1500. Why would he keep the profit of the project not completed and just pay me his cost supposedly. Either way, I told him not acceptable to me. I'm a retired veteran, who served in Iraq living on a budget. I can't just throw money away. My credit value was over $3k for that project from other estimates I got. I wrote both owners, Agata and Fabian, who seemed nice in response to get back to me. They never did. They did not respond to BBB complaint either. I did not want to go to DBPR for breach of contract after paid because they "seemed" like good people. I am starting to question whether they are respectable if they treat a veteran of 28 years of service to this great country of opportunity like that. Taking advantage of people like me who provide that opportunity in this country.
