The Poorly Guarded Girl celebrates rural life in 18th Century France, where love conquers all. Here, you will find the charm and simplicity that overcomes the elegance of big cities. The story of "La Fille," a precocious young girl named Lise whose mother wants her to stay at home to be married off to the wealthy son of a local businessman, will be told. Lise is a hard-headed young woman who is in love with Colas, a boy from the locality with limited means. He lands a job as a home helper, causing mayhem. The poorly guarded girl was first performed in Bordeaux in France at the Grande Theatre just two weeks prior to the French Revolution. The ballet is one of the oldest and most important pieces in our repertory, as it has been performed for over 200 years under many different titles, revivals, and scores. This playful ballet, filled with beautiful Russian sets, handmade costumes, and Cuban dance stars, is a must-see!
