DeKalb School of the Arts

The ideal future vision for DeKalb County Schools District is to persuade our students to achieve educational excellence. We seek to ensure that students achieve, leading to superior education and employment and sustained education. This vision and mission are being fulfilled daily, in every classroom, across the District. We managed stakeholders via focus groups, community forums, and listening meetings, which improved our goals and processes. It also created a strong, well-organized, and adjustable strategic plan. We are happy with our accomplishments and look to the future. This plan will benefit the whole community and the District and the 100,000+ students who bring their potential every day. Performance measures, objectives, and initiatives have been developed in all areas of the District's goals. The District has a data gathering and tracking mechanism and a strict progress monitoring process. All principals are provided with ongoing training at the local level to assist alignment, refinement, monitoring, evaluation, and improvement of the school's ongoing improvement work. We are a learning community and strive for excellence in every aspect of our work, from the classroom to the district. We are eager to collaborate with you in achieving this vision.

The school has received a mix of positive feedbacks. Majority of them are about the great learning conditions and school leadership. The respondents admire the art department for the school has got cultural activities. Mostly, the moments built at the school contribute to the rich learning experience and the high levels of performance. There is much love and connection to the school, with one student considering returning next year. The professors, former students, and current students also appreciate everything. They all acknowledge the unwavering support from the teachers and the wide space for everyone. One student attests that though the standards here are high, kind loving and caring teachers sharpened him. Another respondent loves the school and is ready to see it excel. The arts school is an excitement for many artsy students. But one respondent says that he still loves to see his fellow students perform. That said reviews pointed to the high standard of the school behind the excitement. The principal is recognized as a great leader by many with them add that the principal manages the school perfectly. The Principal also inspires others with his smart moves such as an email each and every teacher to support a particular other teacher. The secretarial staff are mentioned as very well which adds to a functioning school environment. However there are a few challenges that the school is currently facing. One student mentioned that it is hard to get in and even harder to stay, meaning that the school needs to improve a little bit. In summary, the school has great reviews but still needs improvement.
