Georgia State University's School of Art & Design has been NASAD-accredited. It features an international faculty and a challenging curriculum to prepare students for careers in design, education, history, and art history. In an inter-disciplinary environment, the school encourages critical thinking as well as dynamic artistic production. There are several studio art concentrations or emphases in graduate and undergraduate degrees: Ceramics, Drawing and Painting, Printmaking, Graphic Design and Interior Design, Photography and Textiles. Access to semi-private and private studio spaces is available to students 24 hours a day. This allows them to explore their chosen field of study, as well as conduct research. There are studios for each discipline, including a metal shop, woodshop, iron forge and 3D and laser-cut printers. Each area also has screen printing and litho presses labs. This is done through project-based, authentic, culturally relevant instruction, enrichment, a positive and safe climate, culture, and support for students and their families. Shambril Manago is my name and I'm honored to be the Parent Liaison in the school year 2022-2023. My goal is to help strengthen Purpose-Built Schools Atlanta families by providing holistic engagement that encourages therapeutic care and avenues for self-advocacy. I also want to build strong connections between caregivers in their communities. My goal is to ensure that guardians and parents have easy access to the information they need to support their children's academic success. To support Carver STEAM Academy's vision to make all scholars LIFE-ready, I am readily available. Our venue was established in 1970 and is one of the best visual arts spaces in Atlanta. These galleries present works from international and national artists as well as local and regional artists. They also host work by Georgia State alumni, students and faculty. The gallery program includes panel discussions, talks, and presentations. This gives students direct access to scholars and professional artists. B.F.A. M.F.A. Students have an exhibition of their thesis in the Welch School galleries. The school also has two student-run galleries: Cage Space & Gallery 650. Cage Space, a gallery with a view at Edgewood or Piedmont avenues, hosts art exhibitions by the Art Student Union. Gallery 650 can be found on the 6th floor's top landing. It is a white-walled area. This space is available for student groups and classes to critique work and it can also be used for staging or documenting the work.
