Punahou School

The Punahou School, established in 1841, has a long history of preparing students to lead and innovate in the future. Kindergarten through Grade 12 students are encouraged to explore their talents and passions to achieve their full potential. This school year, Punahou serves around 3,700 students, making it one of the nation's largest private schools. Each year, programs and courses are created to address changing student needs from early childhood through high school. Punahou School promotes visual and performing arts starting in kindergarten. A variety of art electives, core classes, clubs, and co-curricular activities within and outside of school allow students to engage in creative expression. Music, theatre, and dance are available as part of the co-curricular program. The community can also take music and dance classes at Punahou. Punahou offers dance classes for children from age 3 to high school. The Dance School is one of the largest in Hawai'i and offers introductory and advanced classes in ballet, jazz tap musical theatre, street dance and more with knowledgeable and caring instructors. Co-curricular performances are held yearly for Academy and Middle School Students. All Punahou students can audition, including those with busy schedules. The Variety Show is open to seniors, and Drama Workshops are produced by Academy Students in the Theatre Performance elective. The school offers comprehensive music instruction through its K-12 academic curriculum, Music Department, and Music School. With group and private lessons, the Music School offers specialized music instruction for all ages, including preschoolers and adults. The Music School is also open to the public in addition to Punahou students.
