I was offered a position as a Recruitment Manager with a client through LaSalle Staffing. However, LaSalle Staffing rescinded the job offer because I declined to ask my previous supervisor for a reference. I have 16 years of experience in HR.
My experience with LaSalle Staffing was quite chaotic. It started with my Recruiter emailing me incorrect interview times, followed by their Zoom link disconnecting during my interview with the HR Director. Additionally, the Recruiter became confrontational when I expressed discomfort in asking my previous supervisor to speak with her, as I had received a severance package due to legal reasons.
Although, I did not disclose the details of the severance, (As legally, I cannot) I did inform the Recruiter that her questions seemed more focused on obtaining a personal reference rather than simply verifying my employment dates, position, and end date.
I explained that the Work Number could verify my employment, and I could provide four additional HR references within the same organization who could speak to my character.
The Recruiter continued to insist that speaking to my former supervisor was their policy, despite their employment application stating "may we contact this employer. I reiterated that my employment could be verified by calling the work number, as my former employer indicated for all employees.
The conversation continued with the Recruiter persistently probing the issue. I felt increasingly uncomfortable and irritated with the process because professional references should be able to speak to one's character, and it is not always necessary to involve prior supervisors in that regard to seeking new employment.
As a result, I was informed that they decided not to proceed with my offer because I would not allow them to speak to my former supervisor.
My experience with LaSalle Staffing was extremely unpleasant and embarrassing. Companies that are using LaSalle should be warned of their reputation and unprofessionalism.
