Metz + Jones

My wife and I spoke with Carol Jones, Esq. about estate planning. She agreed to take us on as clients, and charged us a $1,500 retainer. Then we stopped hearing from her… for MONTHS. I offered to respectfully terminate our professional relationship if she did not have availability for new clients. She sent a generic message stating that she was looking over our documentation. Then more months went by, and all of my emails and calls were ignored. So, for 3 months, I emailed 2x a week and called 1-2x a week requesting my retainer of $1,500 back. It took months. It took hours and hours of work and effort. Finally, Carol’s assistant was able to get us a refund. There have been so many times in my life that I didn’t have the resources (financial, time, confidence) to advocate for our money back. I’m grateful that I was able to now… But please, do not pay Carol Jones a dime until she has done work for you. We are in the process of filing a complaint with the Illinois Bar. This was absolutely, completely unacceptable. ESPECIALLY working with queer folks, BIPOC, gender queer, and otherwise oppressed/ ostracized members of the community. Shame on Carol Jones and her practice.
