Zolla/Lieberman Gallery Inc. started in 1976 when William (Bill) Zolla acquired a loft at 325 W. Huron St in Chicago. It later moved to the heart of the neighborhood that had previously been a deserted manufacturing area. This relocation marked the start of the River North Gallery District. When Zolla/Lieberman Gallery Inc. was 2 years old, it held a solo exhibition for Deborah Butterfield. Today, 331 has maintained the style and quality of contemporary art exhibited then. Z/L can present a wide range of art because it embraces a variety of artists and styles to meet the needs of a variety of collectors. The Zolla/Lieberman Gallery Inc. is committed to delivering personal service to collectors, whether they are novices or seasoned professionals. Z/L has been a member of Art Chicago ever since it was founded and has professional relationships with the Art Dealers Association of America, Chicago Art Dealers Association (CADA), and the Art Dealers Association of America.

The reviews generally praise the gallery as having a competent and gracious staff, stunning and cutting-edge art, and being a prime location for a range of paid and complimentary events. Nevertheless, the evaluations are not without limitations, best illustrated involving the possibility of onsite assistance for events. However, overall contentment with the gallery's services and resources is high. The gallery serves as a physical focal point for the continuing dialog on contemporary art and the place to discover what the future generation of talent is creating. Small, delightful, and friendly, the gallery knows how to pair emerging and established artists under one roof, resulting in a well-rounded blend of cutting-edge and more discerning types of art.
