About this business

IN HER INVISIBLE GENIUS, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurological condition that takes over our muscles and eventually traps us in our bodies. Patients have difficulty communicating with loved ones, and others can't share their internal experience with the outside world. Some people can control their breathing, while others can move their eyes. As the disease progresses, many patients can't even breathe on their own. Technology allows us to explore the minute changes in each person's biology and translate them into art or dialogue. Professor Greg Hull (Dean of Herron School of Art and Design at Indiana University Indianapolis) and Juliet King- (an art therapist and former director of Herron’s art therapy program), developed the art therapy project in partnership with Dr. Robert Pascuzzi (the neurologist). Juliet King and Hull collaborated to combine their expertise. Hull used his technology and microprocessor knowledge. He utilized patient physiological data to generate digital imagery. Hull made videos that responded to the patient's physiology using artificial intelligence. These interactive images enable patients to express themselves through their breathing, eye movement, and biological data. These digital images are projected onto their walls (Mensah, 2022).
