Each appointment has access to our whole facility, ensuring seclusion from the outside world and an escape from life's pressures. Our licensed and seasoned staff are here to help. over 30 years, since the FDA approved it for treating ocular dystonia in 1989, Botox’s (botulinum type A toxin) combined medical and cosmetic applications have historical roots. Its entry into the cosmetics market was almost predictable as ophthalmologists who had a background in oculoplastics surgery saw the cosmetic benefits of it in treating eyelid spasms. The botulinum type A toxin is produced by Clostridium Botulinum, the bacterium that causes botulism by paralyzing the person. In 1978 Alan B. Scott began his study on the botulinum toxins after the FDA allowed the researchers to study its effects on strabismus, which is a medical condition that causes the eyes to not align correctly. In 1988, Allergan patented the drug from him and preemptively called it Oculinum. They continued to test it on other illnesses like cervical dystonia, a condition where the neck muscles contract abnormally, and blepharospasm, which is the uncontrollable eyelid movements. It was then recognized that Botox could be used to temporarily paralyze the muscles that caused wrinkles on the face when the FDA approved it in 2002 for treating glabellar wrinkles. Doctors also saw the potential for Botox to be used in other illnesses. After time, the FDA accepted the drug for other conditions, like treating and preventing severe sweating in 2004), treating chronic migraines in 2009, and treating crow’s feet in 2013, among other conditions.
