Photography has been ingrained in my everyday routine for as long as I can remember. My father, the son of a photographer, brought a camera on every beach trip, Charles River ride, and swim in Walden Pond. Dad would take countless candid pictures of us, which I can still recall the excitement of watching as we were surprised to see them in slideshows. We would all gather in the living room and chuckle at our past antics, watching last week's water fight repeat on the screen. We loved it all. I love photography even more, and those pictures tell different stories that we will never forget. When I turned eight, my dad handed me an 8-year-old Canon Snappy. I felt transformed. A red Snappy made me feel like him, capturing moments with a single click. Avid dolls and stuffed animal collector, my dad recalled something I never forgot. Stuffed animals never changed; people changed our lives, and we only had limited time with them. He was right. I discovered the power of photographic memory. Memories could be frozen and stored forever using a camera, capturing a fraction of a second. With digital cameras and iPhones, we can take countless photos every day. You can document your coffee and breakfast at the train station. Though vital and enjoyable, what is the substance? They are the relationships and life-changing moments that make life truly amazing. Due to their rareness and beauty, these moments are preserved in photographs. Such moments inspire me, and I am lucky to capture them. I find comfort and inspiration in these stories, like a favorite book that demands a reread. They are framed and hung to illuminate and bring life to our living space.
