ABOUT   Services Excellence Summary

Detroit Collaborative Design Center (DCDC) operates within the School of Architecture and Community Development at University of Detroit Mercy. This nonprofit multidisciplinary design center is committed to being community-engaged and a high-quality design center for all Detroit neighborhoods. Our design process and its results promote equity by engaging, educating, and empowering users. We believe that the best ideas come from residents. DCDC operates in the city and with city partners on a variety of projects. DCDC comprises full-time, year-round professional staff with diverse backgrounds and training. Every semester, we host 2-4 students to learn about community-engaged designing. DCDC has a studio housed in the School of Architecture on campus and an off-campus location in Neighborhood HomeBase at 15315 McNichols Road. This was set up in 2019 and is a part of the Live6 Alliance, where DCDC hosts community programs.

SUMMARY   Reviews Summary

Interpretation: The community precinct of architects and designers is highly lauded for its splendid contributions to the local community. The practitioners are hailed for their robust sense of integrity and industry, yet the environment that provides them a platform to work is described as magical. Community development and empowerment are at the center of community activities, and partnerships are seen as integral to their success. The overall impression is positive.
