Winans Academy Performing Arts

Marvin L. Winans Academy of the Performing Arts was established in 1997 by Marvin L. Winans, a Grammy-winning singer for the famous Winans gospel band. The school initially housed grades kindergarten through grade 5 and enrolled 248 students. Each year, the school grew by one grade level until it had an eighth-grade 2015 class. The University is rooted in excellence, and Chancellor Winans, the school's founder, is dedicated to helping every student achieve their full potential. The school's mission is to prepare students to be responsible citizens and scholars. The Academy is a public charter school in Michigan that serves students in kindergarten through eighth grade. There are two schools in the district, and the campuses are designed to enhance learning in a safe and supportive environment. Marvin L. Winans Academy of the Performing Arts offers the best of both worlds. We provide challenging and rigorous academic studies, as well as a state-of-the-art performing arts program. Students have the opportunity to be creative and learn about the fine arts through our award-winning performing arts program. All pupils will have the chance to participate in our vocal, drama, voice, and orchestra programs, all of which have won local and national awards. Each year, the Academy honors the achievements of the students in the performing arts. Our mission is to train students in the fundamentals of academic excellence and artistic creativity. Our students experience classical and contemporary music. All pupils can choose to take introductory, audition, and expert orchestra lessons. We also have musical classes in voice, drama, and dance. The Academy of the Performing Arts has two annual performances. The Winter Concert is held in January, followed by the Spring Concert in May. Students learn and perform musicals like Annie, West Side Story, The Wiz, and Broadway. The students from our academy have taken part in various regional competitions across the country. Our school is also proud of its reputation for winning first place and excellence in the World Disney World or Cedar Point Music in the Park musical contests.
