I had been hesitant to write this review but felt compelled to educate other potential homebuyers on our ordeal. When we started, Derek took control of the situation. We were then passed around to different people, leading to poor communication, misinterpretation, and misinformation. The highly disorganized loan process meant we had to provide the same data to different people and take multiple actions, creating a chaotic and stressful situation. Their high upfront charges were a red flag, but since our realtor recommended them, we gave them a second chance. Then, two days before closing, they slapped us with an extra $2,000 out of the blue. The recipient claimed Derek was away at a seminar. He never responded. We had no choice but to close. We ultimately paid double the lender fees we found online. The exorbitant price did not guarantee better service; it gave us more people, more ambiguity, and more problems. We were ripped off and can't suggest them to anyone. Note that they never respond to their one-star reviews, illustrating the company's awful customer service. Do yourself a favor: get multiple offers, compare all fees, and reconsider McGowan Mortgage.4. The McGowan Mortgage experience was excellent.
