Artists First

At Artists First, we use visual arts as a transformational tool for social integration. Artists First is a professional, safe, and inclusive art studio for people of all ages. Artists First, a non-profit community organization, promotes art in the St. Louis area to facilitate social integration and healing. Minimal Touch (Art Facilitation): The studio’s facilitators use a process known as minimal touch. This means they only physically contact the artwork when the artist needs it. The facilitators are present to help artists, but their objective is to allow them to express themselves creatively without assistance, fostering their growth as individuals. Inclusive Community: Artists First welcomes individuals without regard to gender, color, ethnicity, or national origin, gender identity, race, and ethnicity, age and ability, or religion. The diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) focus is evident in all elements of Artists First. From program design to execution, we have created an inclusive culture. Visual arts are employed to address social disparities, particularly for marginalized groups. Cultural Humility and Learning: Artists First was established with a firm belief in the necessity of diversity, equity, and inclusion for everyone. The organization adopts a DEI perspective and utilises an intersectionality approach in all hiring decisions. Policy creation, program design, and implementation, and other activities.
