The Studios Inc is a top-ten study due to its mid-career artist residency programs, which support career growth for local creatives. Offering four other options to support artists, the facility houses communal studios and galleries, an immersive internship program, a patronage program, and more. The establishment's exhibitions showcase work from resident artists, and the energetic and kind-hearted scene includes fellow artists, gallery visitors, and museum patrons. The establishment aligns itself with the mission of supporting local art, and its audience responds to the mission with plenty of optimism and enthusiasm. More units extend the institution's appeal, as some house the on-site brewery Torn Label. Constructing local spaces filled with people enjoying good beers or enjoying art giveaways also provides support to Studios Inc.'s mission of creating local spaces filled with art. Area critiques identify the place's distance from the First Friday art galleries as a downside. Still, aspects attribute the organization with capacity, efficiency in operating programs, and a large art collection, making the Studios Inc. a well-respected name in the Kansas City arts scene.

My art practice is driven by experimentation. Color, texture, geometry, found items, and new materials fascinate me. Innovation leads me to inventing. The unknown is where I find myself when I am inventing, and this unknown puts me right under the spotlight of danger. It's there that I find the most excitement and the biggest challenges, while exploring human nature. The artists that have gone before me also influence my work. The history of art is a fascinating and inspiring record of the progress of mankind. It is a record of insights and experience delivered through a language that we all have to learn in order to solve the creative challenges. My work is a reflection of this process and how I translate my ideas and dreams into art. Each new work affects and influences the surrounding work. I can't avoid the flow of images and ideas that move between my prints, paintings and sculptures. I am constantly inspired by the power of horizon lines, the architectural scales and dimensions, the texture of surfaces or the angles in geometry. He taught me to not be afraid of imagination. I am grateful for this. The trait of generosity he possessed is one I still admire. It includes being generous with my students, mentors and community members as they grow their careers.

Made in KC was opened in Overland Park in May 2015, to give local Kansas City makers and artists a way to connect with customers. Made in KC aimed at providing exposure to the larger metro area as many artists, designers and makers in Kansas City are centered around the midtown district and Kansas City’s growing Crossroads. Overland Park's Prairiefire store was a huge success, and a second shop opened in North KC at the Village at Briarcliff. Made in KC opened a third shop in Prairie Village, at Corinth Square in spring 2016. They also began new partnerships at Hallmark in Crown Center and HMK at the Country Club Plaza. In the winter of 2017, Made in KC launched their fourth location in Crossroads, as well as opening the first Made in KC Café in Downtown. Made in KC Marketplace opened on Country Club Plaza in the summer of 2018. It featured individual vendors in spaces that were designed by them, as well as the Made in KC Cafe 2 and the first bar. Made in KC has grown from a small pop-up with just 13 artists to a large collection of over 300 artists, designers and makers. Made in KC, with nine locations and four other sister concepts, aims to give local businesses a platform to connect to customers in the Kansas City metropolitan area. We give brands the opportunity to reach different demographics and geographical locations with just one partnership. Made in KC selects products from hundreds of submissions, while supporting brands with partnerships, relationships and resources. Artists we work with design or make their products within the Kansas City metropolitan area. They may also source parts outside Kansas City if a local option is unavailable or prohibitively expensive. Our network is constantly growing so we are able to help our clients grow sales and build more sustainable businesses. Many fun projects are in development, including baskets of goodies for local large companies to attract new talent and welcome new visitors into the city that we love. We hope that this is one way we can give our brands more exposure in Kansas City, and even beyond.

Katherine Huelsing lives with Delilah in St. Louis, along with 2 dogs and 2 cats. She has two grown daughters. Since 4th grade when she would be released from school earlier each week in order to take a weekly watercolor class, art has become her refuge from reality. Katherine began her career in banking. She snuck in as many art courses as she could into her schedule as a business student at Indiana University. While living in Chicago and Denver, she continued to take art classes, as well as make art, on the side. Katherine returned to St. Louis and obtained her Master's in Arts in Teaching from Webster University. She then began her second career in high school teaching. She taught design, drawing, and painting at the high school level for eight years before deciding to make art her full-time. Katherine's Studio, 3rd Period is named after the third stage of her career and her passion for hockey. Her primary interest has been acrylic and watercolor paintings. Fiber art is becoming a larger part of her artwork after taking courses at Kansas City Art Institute’s Educator ArtLab and Milwaukee College of Art and Design.
