We are interested in building relationships that bring together creatives to create harmony and peace in our lives, work, and surroundings. We are focused on creating and cultivating emergent ideas. The in-between, the moment of movement. The studio practice, research, and methods of each person's practices are all important to us. Deep feeling and listening are fundamental to our belief system. We use the poetry of life as a tool for understanding and sensibility. This intention helps us to feel closer to our methods and to each other, as well as to nature. The recognition of universal motion - A series of sounds, or paint strokes that can be used to communicate our thoughts and create change within our world - is what we live by. We are motivated to share the beauty and wonder of nature with others. We can create healing pathways through devotion and practice. Prairie is supportive of the international work of multidisciplinary artists from emerging and established countries. Prairie is a visionary community that is constantly evolving and focuses on all things arts, with a group of creators from around the world. Prairie Studio was created by Jillian Solotes (multi-disciplinary artist), to provide a space that allows artists to share their curiosity and find a place of refuge. Prairie, like the American plains, evokes an uncharted land on which modern pioneers can explore their personal ideas and desires through craft. Artists create a community of feelings, creating a feeling of belonging on uncharted ground. This encourages neighborliness with those who seek refuge from the discomfort of being alone.

This is a brief overview of my artistic career, focusing on the people I have learned from most and how I earn a living as an artist full-time. 1985 Wake Forest University graduate with a Bachelors degree in Fine Art. From 1985 to 2001, worked in various positions including technical illustration, print, computer graphics and multi-media programming. 2002 I began doing charcoal portraits. Also, explored soft pastels. Harley Brown's book Eternal Truths for Artists was purchased. It was a book I reread every day. Kevin Beck taught pastel workshops. Every day that I was able, I sketched or painted. My signature was based on Wolf Kahn (first and last names). It was simple and I loved it. 2003 I attended two 5-day workshops by Albert Handell. March and November 2003 I painted or sketched everyday. I also started doing outdoor art festivals around my neighborhood and began to branch out further into national exhibitions. My primary source of income was art festivals. 2005 I attended a 10 day workshop in Jackson with Scott Christensen. Among many other things, I learned his limited palette method. 2006 I began teaching lessons to students in the area. Most of my students met me through art festivals. Many people wanted to be able to paint as I did. From 2007 to present, I am still traveling around the country, participating in Plein Air events, attending fine art festivals and teaching workshops. Sometimes I accept commissions. I began to choose Gallery representation through developing relationships with people who are interested in my art. I've been a full time artist since 2002. Most of my work is in the impressionistic style and done with pastel or oil. I accept commissions and sell paintings created either on location or in my studio. Workshops are another form of income and I love sharing whatever I can with those who want to learn more. Enjoy my work and please contact me with any inquiries.
