Shane Smith Law attempted to renege on a legally binding settlement agreement after confirming my payment was sent on October 20, 2025. They tried to raise my agreed 33⅓% fee to 40% after everything was agreed to, signed, and sealed. This conduct reflects a breach of trust and professional ethics —…

Take my word go some place else they will take their sweet time getting you what little money they do get for you. I signed my paperwork to settle on May 16 and it's June 3 and I still have received my check.

Terrible, don't recommend. I was in a major accident in a semi truck, the person at the law office took three weeks to get back to me and then basically wanted me to do her job for her by doing all the research and find dates for her. I even told her how the accident was on the news and on national…

About this Personal Injury Settlement Calculator

This calculator uses the multiplier method, the starting point most insurance adjusters and personal injury lawyers use. It adds your financial losses (medical bills and lost wages) to a pain-and-suffering figure, which is those losses multiplied by a factor set by how serious the injury is: 1.5 to 2 times for minor injuries, up to 4 to 5 times for catastrophic ones. The type of accident adjusts the result, and it is then reduced by your share of fault under North Carolina law.

North Carolina rules this calculator applies

Fault rule
Contributory negligence. One of the strictest rules in the country: if you were even 1% at fault, you may recover nothing. A lawyer matters more here than anywhere.
Deadline to file
You generally have 3 years from the date of the injury to file a personal injury claim in North Carolina. Claims against a government body usually need formal notice much sooner, and medical malpractice and wrongful death claims can have their own deadlines.

General information about North Carolina law, not legal advice, and the estimate is not a guarantee of any outcome. A lawyer can tell you how these rules apply to your case.
