WP Baker opened the Baker Rawls Tin Shop in downtown Raleigh in 1915 and put up a sign. This sign advertised the establishment of Baker Roofing and the newly opened Baker Rawls Tin Shop. The sign boasted that it would “Do Good Work.” The sign also said “We shall do good work. At a profit if possible, at loss if necessary, but always.” The company wanted to assure potential customers that its products and services would be of high quality no matter what. It hangs in Raleigh's headquarters. The company has achieved a lot since its founding in 1915. It is now a national company with a strong reputation and significant growth. Our 20 locations operate in the Southeast US, and we work as well in the remaining 30 states across the US. Business success of over 100 years is extraordinary. This longevity is probably due to the company's values and mission statement, which have been in place since 1915. Prentiss Baker, our third-generation Baker man, and we discussed this over a beer and some laughs. We wanted to write about our hearts and our beliefs to understand each other better.
