In 1963, architect Frank Lucas opened his shingle in Charleston. With a new license for architecture, a small office, and a table for drawing, he began. He initiated a screened porch, a fire station, and can washing at the high school. Sidney Stubbs, a Clemson friend of Frank, joined him to create Lucas and Stubbs, Architects in 1964. The firm won a competition to design the City of Charleston's Municipal Auditorium and Exhibition Hall. Despite a torrential downpour that flooded the basement of their office before the deadline, they won the competition. Gaillard Auditorium opened in 1968 with much applause and won the Honor Award of the SC Chapter of American Institute of Architects. Leadership changed as the firm grew. Vito Pascullis, Richard Powell, and Thom Penney joined the partnership in 1982. The firm changed its name to Lucas Stubbs Pascullis Powell and Penney, Ltd. It shortened to LS3P in 1991, a name that has remained since then. We are committed to Southeast architecture. Our culture is excellence in design, collaboration, innovation, and expertise. LS3P has spent the last two years charting the Firm's future stages. This exercise has produced a new strategic plan. This plan builds on our fundamental values and sets aggressive objectives that will set us for the future. We are excited about the progress we have made and the next five years. The new Vision emerged rapidly as a north star, helping us develop strategic goals and reinvigorate our values.
