It is certified by the Department of Education to offer financial aid to qualified students. Winston-Salem Barber School, well-known across North Carolina, opened its doors in 1935. The Winston-Salem Barber School was established in 1935 to meet the rising demand for qualified barbers in the Piedmont. F. L. Gobble started it. The original site was at Sixth Street and Trade Streets until its relocation in 1967 to 1969 to 1531 Silas Creek Parkway. The Winston Salem Barber School opened a satellite location at 1700 Stanley Road in Greensboro in September 2016. This makes it North Carolina’s oldest and most respected barber school. Winston Salem Barber School has been the community's choice since its inception. Employers prefer graduates who were students at the institution because of their excellent training. The institution serves more than 30,000 clients annually. The Winston-Salem Barber School achieved its accreditation by the National Association of Trade and Technical Schools in February 1990. The Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges approved the institution in October 1995. The United States Department of Education certified the School to offer financial aid to Title IV program participants. The State of North Carolina also recognizes the School as a postsecondary institution.
