Summary of Client Feedback: Retained Arnold & Smith after reviewing advertising and researching their materials online, which listed representation in my home county. Based on this, I expected a certain level of engagement and communication. After this, the legal services firm in Asheville signed a written agreement and paid a retainer, going against a different attorney from the one the company advertised. I was not placed in communication with the attorney featured in the firm’s advertising prior to court. The agreement I signed clear indicated bond would be addressed before a judge. At my court appearance, bond was not addressed by counsel as I had anticipated based on the agreement, and I ultimately coordinated with my bondsman. On the day of my court appearance, I called my assigned attorney to inform him that I was approximately 10–20 minutes late due to parking and courthouse access concerns. Despite my notification to my attorney, I arrived toward 10:45, and my attorney was no longer present in the courtroom. My position was that I stood before a judge without the attorney I retained in the county not physically present at that time. My experience with communication during the representation was also problematic. In my opinion, phone conversations felt dismissive and abrasive, and certain exchanges felt unnecessarily confrontational. I did not feel supported in the manner I expected after retaining counsel. The Asheville-based firm later refunded the initial fee, the experience was stressful and disruptive. This review reflects my personal experience. Anyone considering this firm should ask clear questions about who will personally appear in court, how bond matters will be handled, and what communication standards to expect.
