His grandmother, moved by the story, asked him about the cost he would need to start his own store. He estimated the starting cost to be $300. Stack's grandmother gave the money from her savings in a cookie jar, which was supposed to be used for the construction of a fishing equipment store in Binghamton. In the 1970s, Stack expanded his production area to include other production items such as the ones sold in DICK's Sporting Goods.
