ABOUT   Services Excellence Summary

About Sokol New York To offer opportunities for fitness and community through educational, social, and physical activities is the objective of Sokol New York. In 1867, a group of Czechoslovakian immigrants brought the organization Sokol to America. Sokol is Czech for falcon. Its symbol was chosen because of the falcon's strength, endurance, and keen sense of sight. Since its founding, Sokol New York has promoted Czech and Slovak heritage in the New York metro area through its cultural, physical education, and social events. The American Sokol organization has provided Sokol New York with its manual of activities and instructions. Context of Sokol New York Classes Tae Kwon Do and Gymnastics for adults and children, Ballet and Tot Gyms, and Volleyball and Basketball are all offered by Sokol New York (Rees, 2002). Sokol New York is located on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Gymnastic equipment is used in Sokol New York's classes. There are six events: women's uneven bars, men's high bars, parallel bars, strength exercises on horizontal bars, pommel horse, vault, and floor training (Collins, 1993). As an introduction, elementary students should learn about the equipment and movements that are required. They will practice how to mount and dismount the vault, parallel bars, and rings, as well as the pommel horse. They will learn how to perform gymnastic routines and add artistry to their performances by March. Routines include body shapes such as animals and machines, handstands and cartwheels, and handstands and bridge walks. Group calisthenics are also practiced to achieve incredible feats like pyramid building. Other components included are marching and group games. Your pulse will increase, and you'll find yourself breathless at times. You will be out of breath at times, but you will be healthier in no time. References Collins, D. (1993). Children's classic gymnastics; a new program of exercises and movements suitable for boys and girls. E. P. Dutton. Rees, G. (2002). Black belt parenting: the art of raising children for success.
