Reviews Summary
The customer reviews suggest that AMC Emergency Care is a top-of-the-line veterinary facility, offering exceptional emergency and specialized services. There are numerous commendations of staff—many of whom were described as caring and considerate—and its attention to detail. Moreover, customers can expect to be kept abreast of treatment and recovery plans for their pets, which is a nice touch. Their proactive and compassionate approach is evident through their care routine and communications throughout. The AMC has a world of experience with various, complex medical issues in pets, making them the go-to location for high-stakes treatments. Only negative voices can be heard, and most people seemed pleased with the treatment they or their animals received. The reviews underscore the medical worries of pet owners, but they also show that a well-equipped, client-centric facility like AMC can ease their concerns. In today's rabbit-eat-rabbit world, it is especially heartening to know about their tumultuous journey as they shepherd our pets throughout their brief and tumultuous journeys. Beyond ordinary care, AMC is a beacon of hope for all pet owners right now, and most reviewers are thankful for this heartfelt acceptance.
In August 2021, AMC Emergency Care saved my yorkie Charlie, who was violently ill—vomiting, diarrhea, bleeding rectally—with Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis (HGE).
Due to a confluence of factors—the pandemic, his regular vet retiring, his near death experience—Charlie was overdue for dental cleaning and I knew he was going to lose some teeth. I was so scared to let him go under anesthesia, especially as a senior dog.
I don't know why I'm like this, but the night before his surgery last week, I started reading AMC reviews and nearly gave myself an anxiety attack and cancelled the appointment.
I am so grateful I went ahead with it—I chose AMC because they're the best in NYC and probably the country (google best vet hospitals in US).
Dr. Riback was so sweet to Charlie and kind to me. He's still recovering/wearing a cone, but I know that he will be happier and healthier for having the bad teeth pulled.
If you are reading this because you need to make a decision about your pet's care and are concerned about the 50% bad reviews, keep in mind the majority of people who bring their pets here have very sick animals and are trying to give them a chance (like I did with Charlie on his first visit). It's heartbreaking losing a pet—a family member—but I also know that people are more likely to write poor reviews than positive ones. Highly recommend AMC for emergency and specialized care.*
*My one criticism is that Patricia, 2nd floor desk, should NOT be in a client-facing role, where tact and empathy are critical
If you have a sick parrot, avoid this place at all costs. I brought my 35 year old African Grey in for an emergency on a Saturday afternoon since my regular vet was closed. They assured me over the phone that he would treated by an avain specialist upon arrival The avian doctors didn't actually treat my bird for 2 days, and then, over the course of the next 3 weeks, were completely incompetent with his care. I ended up bringing my bird back to his usual veteranarian who was astonished at how badly he was handled. In fact, it was my vet who recommended that I file a complaint with the NY state veteranarian board. Not only did the doctors at Schwarzman Animal Medical botch the operation, they continued to treat the wound improperly all while cancelling multiple appointments for follow ups. This ended up endagering his life through infection. Thankfully my regular vet was able to perform the operation again, the second time correctly, thus saving his life.
On top of dangerously incompetent treatment, Schwarzman Animal Medical
charged me 4 times the customary amount for the same operation that had to be performed the second time.
Again, do not bring any bird to Schwarzman if you love and care for them.
