We here at the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) believe that it is essential to prepare our students for careers as scholars and artists who can make a positive impact. Our faculty and staff will challenge students to understand diverse perspectives and learn practices and histories of visual art, emphasizing equity, inclusion, and the critical importance of the visual arts to our larger community. We teach and learn from institutions that have not been adequately represented in history, have been repressed, or have been lost. At DAAP, we offer courses in art history, studio art, and art education. Our state-of-the-art lab and maker facilities, our vast research libraries, numerous galleries, and other resources from a top-ranked research university enable us to teach and learn about the history, materials, techniques, and functions of visual art. Our internationally renowned faculty, researchers, and visiting artists will ensure that our arts-based academic programs have a significant impact on students' lives. Our BFA program, for example, offers opportunities for students to explore the health of the art market and questions concerning its sustainability and equity by committing to three semesters of cooperative or experiential education. The Cincinnati art scene is an extension of the classroom. Here, exhibitions and research sites, as well as public art and internships at museums and other institutions, enable reflection and action.
