Reliable Blair Coiner was an ambitious man who never gave up once he set his sights on something. He began his company in the year 1929, during the worst economic crisis in the world, the Great Depression. Initially, he sold various car parts to businesses such as dealerships, garages, and service stations. The Model T 1 ton truck enabled him to offer dealer service that ran from Winchester in Virginia into North Carolina. This was a high-quality service from a company known for its quality products (Fisher Auto Parts, n.d.). A door-to-door service began in 1933- this was a big investment in the company, with six trucks specially constructed. These trucks were each packed with hundreds of different spare parts, in addition to their mobile machine-shop service. After some time, salesmen started to travel routes that sometimes took them away from home for up to one week. Such was the daily routine of these salesmen, with some even visiting remote rural places where it was extremely difficult for them to access spare parts (Fisher Auto Parts, n.d.). An employee base of 18 existed by 1941 and the company had now increased its customers to around 800 as it moved into the wholesaling business. However, the company’s success could be attributed to the effort put in ensuring quality in all the provided services. Therefore, the desire for more knowledge on how parts work to better the consciousness of the employees. Buses were loaded with employees and customers for excursions to the manufacturer’s facility for updated training. There were 60 locations that employed 300 people by 1983 (Fisher Auto Parts, n.d.). The company changed its name to Fisher Auto Parts to reflect the diversified services and name brand parts that it still offers. In addition, the company prided itself in delivering the name-brand products at a lower price for professional installers. This made it unique and more competitive compared to its competitors.
